Irena & Jerzy Wiszniewski Foundation

Prof. Jerzy Wiszniewski was a well-known Polish lawyer, professor of law, and author of academic textbooks.

The Foundation named in his honour was established pursuant to the will of his daughter, Prof. Irena Wiszniewska-Białecka, an outstanding lawyer and judge, who had a distinguished career adjudicating in the Supreme Administrative Court of Poland and the General Court of the European Union, one of the two courts that make up the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Foundation

The foundation’s aims and methods

The mission of the Foundation is to promote the international advancement of competition law and intellectual property, and to assist in the development of robust and transparent institutions for the development of economic opportunity for all.

To this end, the Foundation promotes a number of initiatives.  The Prof. Irena Wiszniewska-Białecka Prize is an international prize for outstanding scholarly work in competition and IP law that takes place every two years. The Foundation also provides material support to outstanding researchers by funding international research trips for early-career scholars, and organises academic conferences and discussion forums on important topics dealing with market regulation and society.

Generally, the foundation commemorates the work and scholarly accomplishments of Prof. Jerzy Wiszniewski and Prof. Irena Wiszniewska-Białecka as outstanding lawyers and important figures in law both within Poland and internationally.

Management Board

The management board of the Irena & Jerzy Wiszniewski Foundation is made up of:

  • Tomasz Wardyński, president of the management board
  • Stefan Jacyno, member of the management board
  • Włodzimierz Szoszuk, member of the management board
  • Marzena Białasik-Kendzior, secretary to the management board
